Rescued!
I met this women today who brought her newest addition in for a groom. It was a five year old poodle wearing diapers due to an accident. His owners spent $5000 repairing his broken body. Somehow he was abandoned again on the streets. She received a email only hours before his euthanasia was scheduled.

Kibby is a wonderfull dog, loves to play, sleeps with his mom and so loyal. Imagine, if not for this unselfish women, he'd be dead and no one would ever know him. I'm so glad there are people out there willing to give a home to these sweet pets.

Thanks Kibby's mom!

Fear of Thunder & Loud Noises
On this crazy rainy day I decided to post advice on how to help your pooch through the next storm. Hope this helps.

Create a Safe Place: Try to create a safe place for your dog to go to when she hears the noises that frighten her.

Distract Your Dog: This method works best when your dog is just beginning to get anxious.

Home Remedy for a Dog's Itchy Skin
Itchy skin among dogs is a common problem that can be caused by allergies, fleas, poor nutrition or infection. Pet owners often don't know what to do to help their dogs, particularly if they don't want to pay expensive veterinary fees.

Calendula extract, available at most health food stores, is a topical liquid that has soothing and antibacterial qualities. It may help to apply a few drops to severely infected spots or to coat the skin and brush through with a soft brush to soothe the entire coat.

Vitamin E has strong moisturizing properties and is helpful for dogs with itching, flaky, dry skin. Vitamin E is available in gel capsules, which can be broken open and applied directly to the skin. Vitamin E can also be taken orally if the owner can disguise the pills in the dog's food.

Fish oil is extremely soothing for dogs with itchy skin as it hydrates skin and fosters the development of essential oils in the skin. Fish oil is widely available in capsule form but can also be found in liquid form for easier ingestion. Fish oil in liquid form can also be applied topically to infected areas or brushed through the coat to minimize itching.

Why your Dogs Hair-cut costs more than yours
10. Your hairdresser doesn't wash and clean your rear end.

9. You don't go for 8 weeks without washing or brushing your hair.

8. Your hairdresser doesn't have to give you a sanitary trim.

7. Your hairdresser doesn't have to clean your ears.

6. Your hairdresser doesn't have to clean boogies from your eyes.

5. You sit still for your hairdresser.

4. Your haircut doesn't include a manicure or pedicure.

3. Your hairdresser only washes and cuts the hair on your head.

2. You don't bite or scratch your hairdresser. (I hope not anyway).

And the Number 1 reason your dog's haircut costs more than yours....

1. The likelihood of you pooping or peeing while your hair is being cut is extremely slim.

Milk of Magnesia, corn starch and peroxide

Use equal volume of MOM (plain white) and peroxide, and then use the corn starch to make a good paste of this; put on and work well into the stained area and let dry 4 hours. Wash out, CONDITION WELL. Keep doing this for several days until tear staining is gone, although I would recommend skipping a day or two between applications if possible. Apply a thin coat of desitan diaper rash ointment after the area is washed out and dry. Try this every other day if possible and the choice way of doing it. If your dog has heavy stains then do this for 3 days in a row, then skip every other day.

Dog Quotes
"A dog teaches a boy fidelity, perseverance, and to turn around three times before lying down."
-- Robert Benchley

Removing Tear Stains
White Vinegar
A teaspoon of white cider vinegar can be added to your dogs drinking water to control new tear stains. It may take a while for your dog to "decide" to drink this water so start with a little less and gradually increase the amount of vinegar. Vinegar works much like TUMS in that it can changes the pH of the drinking water.

Flea Facts
The female flea can lay 2,000 eggs in her lifetime; if all 53 million dogs in the U.S. each hosted a population of 60 fleas, we'd have more than six trillion flea eggs surrounding our pets. Laid end-to-end, those eggs would stretch around the world more than 76 times!

In memory of tootsie and spike
It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them. And every new dog who comes into my life gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are.
